Trauma-Informed Counselling UK | Understanding Emotional Wounds, Relationships & Healing

Online trauma-informed therapy across the UK

Difficult experiences can leave an emotional impact that continues long after the event itself has ended.

You may find yourself struggling with anxiety, low self-worth, relationship difficulties, emotional overwhelm, or patterns that feel difficult to understand or change.

Sometimes we carry experiences from the past into the present — influencing how we see ourselves, how we connect with others, and how we respond to challenges.

I offer trauma-informed counselling, creating a safe, supportive space where we can explore your experiences with compassion, curiosity, and understanding.

What does trauma-informed counselling mean?

A trauma-informed approach recognises that our experiences shape the way we think, feel, behave, and relate to others.

Rather than asking:

“What is wrong with me?”

we can explore:

“What has happened in my life that has shaped the way I respond today?”

Trauma-informed therapy considers the impact of experiences such as:

  • Difficult childhood experiences
  • Emotional neglect or feeling unseen
  • Loss, grief, or significant life changes
  • Relationship breakdowns
  • Experiences that affected your sense of safety or belonging
  • Repeated emotional stress
  • Family and relational patterns

How past experiences can affect the present ?

Sometimes people come to therapy because they notice patterns they would like to understand:

  • Feeling overwhelmed by emotions
  • Overthinking or worrying excessively
  • Being highly self-critical
  • Finding it difficult to trust others
  • Struggling with boundaries
  • Feeling responsible for other people's emotions
  • Fear of rejection or abandonment
  • Repeating relationship patterns
  • Feeling disconnected from yourself

These responses often developed for understandable reasons. Therapy provides an opportunity to explore where these patterns come from and develop healthier ways of relating to yourself and others.

Understanding relational and intergenerational patterns

My approach also considers how our relationships and family experiences can shape us.

Sometimes beliefs, coping strategies, and ways of responding emotionally are influenced by the environments we grew up in and the relationships around us.

Through a systemic and relational lens, we can explore:

  • Family dynamics
  • Attachment experiences
  • Communication patterns
  • Emotional roles within relationships
  • Intergenerational patterns passed through families

Understanding these influences can help create greater self-awareness and compassion.

How I work with trauma-informed counselling

I work integratively, combining:

  • Person-Centred Therapy
  • Psychodynamic thinking
  • Transactional Analysis
  • Solution-Focused Therapy
  • Systemic and relational approaches

What this means is that together we may explore your emotions, thoughts, relationships, coping strategies, and the experiences that have shaped you.

Therapy is collaborative and paced around your individual needs. The aim is not to revisit painful experiences unnecessarily, but to help you understand yourself, build emotional resilience, and create meaningful change.

I offer trauma-informed counselling and emotional support for adults experiencing the impact of difficult life experiences, relationships, and emotional patterns.

My work focuses on understanding and supporting emotional wellbeing, self-awareness, relationships, and personal growth.

I do not provide specialist treatment for severe trauma presentations, complex PTSD (CPTSD), or conditions requiring specialist trauma services.

Where someone requires specialist trauma treatment or additional clinical support, I will always encourage appropriate referral pathways.
